Texas Man Killed After Pickup Crashes Into Tanker Trailer

 

LEA COUNTY, NM — A 19-year-old from San Elizario, Texas, was killed early Tuesday morning when his pickup truck collided with a commercial vehicle in Lea County, New Mexico.

According to the Lea County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at about 4:50 a.m. on June 24 on Orla Road. Deputies arrived to find a maroon 2016 GMC Sierra lodged underneath a white 2007 Freightliner commercial motor vehicle with an attached tank trailer.

Investigators determined the GMC Sierra was traveling north on Orla Road when it struck the tank trailer as the Freightliner was exiting a lease road to the east and attempting to turn south onto Orla Road.

The driver of the pickup, identified as 19-year-old Dominick Calderon, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division is actively investigating the crash. No further information was available as of Tuesday afternoon.
