Driver Killed After Jumping from Moving 18-Wheeler in Martin County

MARTIN COUNTY, TX — A 39-year-old truck driver died Tuesday morning after leaping from a moving 18-wheeler on a rural road in Martin County and being run over by his own trailer, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Authorities say the incident happened at about 10:55 a.m. on County Road D5100. The truck, a 2017 Peterbilt pulling a trailer, was traveling westbound when the driver, for reasons still under investigation, exited the vehicle while it was in motion.

The man, identified as Osvaldo Fernandez of Hialeah, Florida, was struck by the rear axles of the trailer and pronounced deceased at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

Fernandez was driving through Martin County, a rural area about two hours northwest of San Angelo, when the fatal incident occurred. The crash remains under investigation, and officials have not released further information about what may have prompted him to jump.
