Highway Reopens After Fiery Crash East of Kermit

 

KERMIT, TX — State Highway 302 near the Winkler/Ector county line reopened Saturday morning after being shut down for several hours following a fiery crash that injured at least one person, according to the Winkler County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the crash east of Kermit at 4:53 a.m. The sheriff’s office said one vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. Injuries were reported, though officials did not release the number or extent.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, Alliance Wrecker Service, and a hazardous materials crew were called to the scene. The highway remained closed in both directions for cleanup and vehicle removal until the scene was cleared at 9:55 a.m.

Authorities urged drivers to find alternate routes during the closure, warning of significant delays. No additional details about the cause of the collision were immediately available.
