Two Killed, Two Injured in Scurry County Crash

SCURRY COUNTY, TX — Two people were killed and two others injured Monday night in a three-vehicle crash west of Snyder, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash happened around 9:05 p.m. on Sept. 22 on U.S. Highway 180 near County Road 264. Troopers said a 2024 International truck crossed the center line and collided with two other vehicles.

Orlando Tello, 32, of Lamesa, and passenger Silvia Lemon, 59, of Lamesa, were both pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Joe Lay. They were inside a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado.

The driver of the International truck, Sid Rodriquez, 44, of Snyder, and his passenger, Aleshia Lucero, 41, of Lamesa, were hospitalized with serious injuries. Rodriguez was taken to UMC Lubbock, and Lucero was transported to Hendrick Medical Center.

The driver of a third vehicle, a Peterbilt truck tractor towing a semi-trailer, was identified as John Chisum, 45, of Snyder. Chisum was not injured.

A preliminary investigation found that Rodriquez, driving east on US 180, crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the other vehicles. The crash remains under investigation.

The posted speed limit in the area is 75 miles per hour, and the DPS reported that weather conditions were clear and the roads were dry at the time of the crash.
