San Angelo Man Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash in Midland County

MIDLAND COUNTY, TX — A San Angelo man was killed early Tuesday morning in a three-vehicle crash on State Highway 158 near FM 1379 in Midland County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash occurred around 6 a.m. on Sept. 23 and involved a 2012 Mack truck with a trailer, a 2015 GMC 3500 pickup, and a 2000 Freightliner with a trailer.

DPS investigators say the driver of the GMC pickup, identified as 46-year-old Daniel Lee Barrientez Jr. of San Angelo, was traveling westbound in the left lane of SH 158 when a Mack truck towing a trailer failed to yield the right of way while turning west from a private drive. Barrientez’s vehicle struck the trailer of the Mack truck and came to rest in the westbound lanes, where it was then hit by a westbound Freightliner.

Barrientez was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

The drivers of the other vehicles—22-year-old Fernando Daniel Gonzalez of Sonora and 43-year-old Yaikel Hernandez Preito of Round Rock—were not injured.

DPS Trooper Gunderson with the Texas Highway Patrol in Midland is leading the investigation. Conditions at the time of the crash were clear.
