DPS Trooper Vehicle Struck in Lampasas County Crash

LAMPASAS COUNTY, TX — A Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper escaped major injury late Friday after his patrol vehicle was struck by a truck tractor on U.S. Highway 190, according to DPS.

The crash happened at about 11:18 p.m. on Sept. 26 near County Road 3068. DPS said the Trooper was stopped in the center turn lane preparing to make a U-turn to initiate a traffic stop on a reported reckless driver.

According to investigators, a westbound truck driver saw the patrol vehicle stopped in the turn lane and believed it might be entering his lane of travel. The driver applied his brakes, which locked and caused the truck to jackknife and lose control. The truck then crossed into the Trooper’s path and struck the patrol unit.

Both the Trooper and the truck driver were evaluated at the scene and did not sustain major injuries, DPS said.

The crash remains under investigation.
