SAN ANGELO, TX — A single-vehicle crash involving a Chevy SUV knocked down a power pole Monday night near the Sonic Drive-In on Beauregard Avenue, pulling live power lines across the roadway and forcing a street closure.
The SUV struck a main power pole, causing a chain reaction involving three poles in the area. A light pole in front of Sonic had a wire strung across Beauregard to another pole, which was then connected to the main power pole that was hit. Officers said the entire setup was unstable, prompting authorities to shut down Beauregard Avenue.
Beauregard was closed from Abe Street to Park Street while crews worked to assess and secure the downed lines. Police warned bystanders not to stand or walk under the power lines crossing the roadway.
Harris Avenue was used as an alternate route to downtown during the closure.
An AEP Texas outage map showed at least one customer outage in the area beginning around 8:43 p.m., with restoration estimated early Tuesday morning. No injuries were reported, and the crash remains under investigation. A field sobriety test was not conducted.

In some Texas metros, the driver will exit the vehicle and shoot the pole after hitting it, stuff the gun into the waistband of their pants with the safety off, and flee on foot. San Angeloans, however, generally feel overwhelmed after being outsmarted by the pole and just give up.
