FISHER COUNTY, TX — A 75-year-old Roscoe man was struck and killed by a southbound semi-truck Wednesday evening on State Highway 70 in Fisher County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Roy Orozco died at the scene. He was pronounced deceased at 8:39 p.m. by Fisher County Justice of the Peace Angie Pippen.
The crash occurred around 8 p.m. Feb. 4 on SH-70, 0.43 miles north of milepost 318.
The driver, Leonardo Galindo Ocampo, 25, of Hobbs, New Mexico, was uninjured and wearing a seat belt. He was driving a 2010 Freightliner truck tractor towing a semi-trailer.
A preliminary DPS investigation found the truck was traveling south when the driver saw the pedestrian in the roadway. The driver attempted to steer left to avoid a collision but was unable to do so. The truck struck Orozco.
Weather conditions were clear, the road was dry, and the posted speed limit was 75 mph.
No other injuries were reported.
