Tom Green County Clerk Sued Over Rear-End Crash

SAN ANGELO, TX — A San Angelo woman is suing Tom Green County Clerk Christina Ubando and Isaias Jimenez for damages exceeding $100,000, alleging negligence in a February 2024 rear-end collision that caused severe injuries.

Maria Lopez filed the lawsuit Jan. 7 in Tom Green County Court at Law, claiming Jimenez rear-ended the 2007 Hyundai Tucson in which she was a passenger as it slowed in the 800 block of Spaulding Street around 1:28 p.m. Feb. 27, 2024.

The petition alleges Jimenez failed to control his speed, keep a proper lookout, timely apply brakes, take evasive action, and stop, and was driving distracted and with an invalid license.

The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado Jimenez that was driving is owned by Ubando, who is accused of negligent entrustment for allowing an unlicensed or incompetent driver to use the vehicle.

Lopez claims she suffered severe, disabling injuries requiring past and future medical treatment, physical pain, mental anguish, impairment, and lost earnings.

Ubando filed an original answer on Jan. 30 denying all allegations and demanding strict proof.

A scheduling conference in the lawsuit is set for 2 p.m. on April 2, 2026, in County Court at Law before Judge Ben Nolen.
