Fatal Crash in Callahan County Claims Life of 74-Year-Old

CALLAHAN COUNTY, TX — A 74-year-old man died early Tuesday after his pickup truck struck a fallen tree blocking a rural roadway in Callahan County, authorities said.

Gregory William Williams, of Cross Plains, Texas, was driving northbound on County Road 432 when the crash occurred around 7:45 a.m. on March 10, according to a preliminary report from the Texas Department of Public Safety. The 1992 Chevrolet pickup truck hit a tree lying across the road near the intersection with County Road 461, completely obstructing the path.

Williams, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved, and no injuries were reported.

The speed limit in the area is 40 mph. Weather conditions were clear, and the road was dry, but the roadway was unlit and dark at the time of the incident, the report stated.
