CROSBY COUNTY, TX — Two women were killed Saturday night after being struck by a pickup following a reported altercation in Crosby County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The crash occurred around 9:33 p.m. on County Road 105, just south of County Road 118.
Preliminary information from DPS indicates a 2010 Ford F-150 had stopped on the roadway and its occupants exited the vehicle when a physical altercation broke out. The driver, identified as Luis Alejandro Poot-Sosa, 49, of Lorenzo, left the scene before returning to pick up the occupants.
As he re-entered the area, the vehicle struck two pedestrians, who were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities identified the victims as Yrma Linda Reyes-Chavez, 52, of Lorenzo, and Irene Ramirez-Reyes, 60, of Lubbock.
A third pedestrian, Sergio Torres, 49, of Levelland, was not injured.
DPS said Poot-Sosa was later assaulted by family members of the victims and was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock with serious injuries.
The roadway conditions were reported as dry with clear weather at the time of the crash. The posted speed limit is 60 mph.
The crash remains under investigation.
