Baby, 17-Year-Old Killed in Ector County Crash

ECTOR COUNTY, TX — A 13-day-old baby and a 17-year-old were killed and three others were injured Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 385, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 3:50 p.m. near the south service road of State Highway 158, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Investigators said a 2022 Dodge Ram 2500 was traveling northbound in the inside lane when a 2024 Chevrolet Malibu, traveling southbound, attempted a left turn onto the service road and failed to yield the right of way. The Ram struck the passenger side of the Malibu.

The 17-year-old driver of the Malibu and the 13-day-old boy, both from Mississippi, were not wearing seat belts and were ejected from the vehicle. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the Malibu suffered serious injuries and was taken to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

The driver and a passenger in the Ram, both from Andrews, were wearing seat belts and sustained minor injuries. They were also transported to the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
