ABILENE, TX — A 19-year-old airman at Dyess Air Force Base was killed Monday afternoon when a vehicle turned into the path of her motorcycle in Abilene.

According to the Abilene Police Department, a Jeep Wrangler failed to yield the right of way at the intersection of Dub Wright Boulevard and Texas Avenue, and the motorcycle collided with the Jeep.

The airman, identified by police as Jordan Ballard, suffered fatal injuries. Bystanders began providing first aid before police, firefighters and emergency medical personnel arrived, but Ballard died at the scene.

Police said Ballard was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors.
