Junction Police and Kimble County Sheriff’s Office Need Help Identifying Armed Robber

The Junction Police Department and Kimble County Sheriff’s Office are asking the citizens of West Texas, including San Angelo, to help identify this armed robber who held up Grandad’s Corner Store on Fri., Dec. 4.

Deputy County Sheriff Steve Brown with KCSO said the suspect walked into Grandad’s, a San Angelo owned business, off of IH 10 and Mile Post 457 in Junction at 10:34 a.m. and displayed a gun to the clerk demanding money.

“She gave him the whole cash drawer and all the money in excess of $500,” Brown said.

Brown added that the suspect was calm and collected when he robbed the store.

“According to the clerk, he even left the scene and drove down a street or two, turned right and went back to the front of the store again. He was pretty cool and collected,” Brown stated.

Brown described the suspect as about 5 feet 8 inches. His weight is estimated at 200 pounds. At the time of the incident, the suspect wore a camouflage coat with a mesh ball cap and a gray front.

Chief of Junction Police, Rudy Supak said, “We’re just trying to identify the suspect and the suspect vehicle right now. That’s the main thing.”

Supak also said investigators checked for prints at the scene, but the investigation came up negative.

“We believe he was wearing gloves,” Supak noted.

Supak noted officials believe the suspect is not from the area, but he’s familiar with it because of some of the things he mentioned to the clerk, and because of his demeanor.

“He was real calm, so we also think this isn’t the first time he’s done this,” stated Supak.

The store is also at an entrance point and an exit point, so the chief said investigators don’t believe the suspect was someone just passing through because Grandad’s Corner Store sits on the interstate by itself.

With that being said, Brown and Supak are asking citizens from the San Antonio and San Angelo areas to be on the lookout for this suspect.

Supak also pointed out that the left front wheel on the vehicle is missing a hubcap. The image doesn’t show that side, so he wanted people to be aware of this if they see a vehicle that matches the description.

“This stuff doesn’t happen around here at all; so to us, it’s a major deal,” the chief said.
