Fourth Ft. Hood Soldier Found Dead Near Base

 

FORT HOOD, TX – Another body of a Fort Hood Soldier has been found but this time the Bell County Sheriff's Office is investigating.  

According to a press release from Fort Hood, Pvt. Mejhor Morta, a Bradley Fighting Vehicle mechanic, was found unresponsive on July 17 near Stillhouse Hollow Lake. The lake is located in Bell County and is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Fort Worth District.

“The Black Knight family is truly heartbroken by the tragic loss of Private Mejhor Morta,” Lt. Col. Neil Armstrong, commander of 1st Brigade 5th Cavalry Regiment, said in the statement. “I would like to send my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and loved ones.”

Officials said that the incident is currently being investigated by the Bell County Sheriff’s Department.

This is the forth soldier found dead near fort hood this year. The first body found was the remains of Pvt. Gregory Morales, 24, who was discovered several miles from Fort Hood in June after he was listed as a deserter for the previous 10 months. His remains were found while authorities were searching for the missing soldier Spc. Vanessa Guillen. 

Guillen, 20, who was allegedly killed by a fellow soldier in an armory on post in April, before the other soldier dismembered her and buried the remains along the Leon River.

A third Fort Hood soldier, Pfc. Brandon Rosecrans, 27, was found dead from a gunshot wound a dozen miles from post in mid-May. His 2016 Jeep Renegade was also found on fire near where he was killed.

It is unclear at this time how Morta was killed but the Bell County Sheriff Eddy Lange said he will be investigating the case.
