Teen Out on $135K Bond Following Injury to a Toddler

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – An 18-year-old man was booked into the Tom Green County Jail on Monday after he was indicted for pushing down and injuring a woman carrying a toddler. He was released the following day.

According to court documents, on May 12, officers with the San Angelo Police Department were dispatched to the 800 block of E. 21st St. for the report of an assault. 

When they arrived they discovered that two females and a child had been assaulted. Officers quickly identified the suspect as 18-year-old Carlos Rangel.

Rangel was accused of first assaulting one women in the front yard of the residence. After hearing commotion another woman left the residence carrying the first woman's toddler.

The affidavit stated Rangel chased after the woman carrying the toddler and pushed her onto the asphalt causing her to drop the child. 

Officers on scene reported the child was bleeding from the nose, forehead, and knees. 

Rangel was arrested on that day and was charged with Assault that Caused Bodily Injury to a Family Member, Evading Arrest, Injury to a Child Causing Reckless Bodily Injury, and Resisting Arrest. He was released four days later following a $13,500 bond. 

Then on Sep. 10, Rangel was indicted for Injury to a Child Causing Reckless Bodily Injury for the assault against the child and Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury for the assault of the woman holding the child. 

Rangel was not in custody again until Nov. 2 when he was booked into the Tom Green County Jail for the indictments. His bond was set at $135,000 and he was released the following day at 2:58 p.m.
