Felon Arrested After Stealing and Crashing a BMW

 

BIG SPRING, TX – The Big Spring Police Department detained a suspect Tuesday accused of stealing a high priced car.

According to BSPD, officers were dispatched to the West Texas Inn for reports of a stolen vehicle.

At the scene, officers spoke with the owner of a gold 2010 BMW passenger car. He told officers he had observed his stolen vehicle traveling on the frontage road of I-20.

Officers were able to locate the stolen vehicle merging onto IH 20 at the 176 on-ramp. When officers attempted to stop the driver, he refused and a chase ensued.

When the driver attempted to exit I-20 at exit 173, the driver lost control of the BMW and crashed into a concrete barrier of the Hwy 87 reliever route and IH 20 intersection.

The suspect then fled the scene on foot, but was quickly apprehended.

Inside the stolen vehicle, officers located a female passenger who was injured in the crash. She was flown to a Lubbock area hospital to be treated for her injuries.

The driver was identified as 28-year-old Andrew Jonathan Yanez.

Yanez was charged with the following:

  • Evading Arrest/Detention causing Serious Bodily Injury a Felony 3
  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon a Felony 3
  • Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle a State jail Felony
  • Parole Violation for Possession of a Firearm by a Felon warrant
  • Bondsman off Bond for Delivery of Controlled Substance warrant.
