EDINBURG, TX – Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station (RGC) agents interdicted two marijuana smuggling attempts totaling more than 900 pounds and valued at over $731K.
Monday evening, agents assigned to the RGC observed several subjects loading large bundles of suspected narcotics into a Chevrolet Trailblazer near the Rio Grande in La Casita, Texas. As agents responded to the area, they located the vehicle abandoned at a nearby residence. Agents discovered bundles still inside the vehicle. The immediate area was searched and agents were able to find additional bundles within the brush. The marijuana seized weighed over 800 lbs and is valued at over $639K.
Later that evening, RGC agents working south of La Grulla, Texas encountered several shoe prints heading away from the Rio Grande. Suspecting an illegal entry had occurred, agents followed the shoe prints into thick brush where two abandoned bundles of marijuana were located. Agents seized the two bundles of marijuana and conducted a search of the area for additional bundles and the subjects. Agents did not find any additional bundles nor were any suspects encountered. The weight of the marijuana is approximately 114 pounds and is worth over $91K.
The marijuana was turned over to the appropriate authorities.
