Border Patrol Agents Arrest Three Dangerous Criminals in One Day

LAREDO, TX – Border Patrol agents apprehended a convicted sex offender, a man convicted of homicide, and an aggravated felon in three separate events in less than 24 hours.

The first incident occurred during the early morning of April 21, when agents apprehended a group of undocumented migrants on a ranch southwest of Freer, Texas.  One of the individuals was identified as Jasiel Olvera-Olguin, a 34-year-old Mexican national.  Records checks revealed that Jasiel Olvera-Olguin had been convicted in 2004 for Sexual Abuse 3rd Degree and Burglary 3rd Degree in Des Moines, Iowa.  Olvera-Olguin is being held by the U.S. Border Patrol pending criminal prosecution for his immigration violations.  He will be remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service.

The second incident occurred later that same day, when Duval County Sheriff’s Department turned over several individuals apprehended during a traffic stop. One of the individuals was identified as Raul Ruela-Gonzalez, a 69-year-old Mexican national.  During processing, records checks revealed that Ruela-Gonzalez was convicted of Manslaughter in 1988 out of Detroit.  He is being prosecuted for his immigration violations and will be remanded into custody of the U.S. Marshals.

The third individual was found early this morning by Laredo North Station agents at the I-35 checkpoint when they intercepted a human smuggling attempt involving over 30 individuals.  Juan Carlos Velasquez-Villeda, a 35-year-old Mexican national, was identified as an aggravated felon for his extensive criminal history with multiple drug related convictions.  Velasquez-Villeda was also identified as a Sureño gang member with an active warrant from Saint Charles, Illinois.

Since the beginning of this fiscal year, nearly 650 criminal undocumented individuals have been arrested by Laredo Sector agents.  This is a drastic comparison of over 60 criminal arrests in the same time frame last year.

These arrests continue to highlight the dangers that illegal immigration poses to our country.  Dangerous criminals such as these endanger our communities by showing a lack of regard for our country’s laws.  The agents of the Laredo Sector are committed to their duties of protecting the American people, safeguarding our borders, and enhancing the Nation’s economic prosperity.

Laredo Sector Chief Patrol Agent Matthew Hudak says, “Our agents work diligently and tirelessly to protect our communities and our country. These three significant arrests, all in less than 24 hours, demonstrate their diligence and the importance of the work they do every day. ”

Help take a stand against these criminal organizations and potentially dangerous acts by reporting suspicious activity in our neighborhoods.
