AFFIDAVIT: Robbery Suspect Threatened to Kill Judge and Officers

SAN ANGELO, TX – Last Wednesday a Mississippi man attempted to rob a man at the Icon Cinema. He then led police on a chase but after his arrest he got additional charges for threatening to kill the judge.

According to court documents, on Apr. 21 at around 5 p.m., officers with the San Angelo Police Department were dispatched to 2020 N. Bryant Blvd for the report of a subject with a weapon.

When officers arrived they were told by a man driving a 2020 Corvette C8 that someone had just tried to rob him. The driver told police that the suspect was still on scene. As officers attempted to question the suspect he drove out of the parking lot in a gray Ford F150 pickup truck at a high rate of speed and a chase ensued.

At the time of the incident San Angelo LIVE! reported photos and videos from the scene. Here is a video from where the chase ended:

The chase went through Grape Creek, Water Valley, and Carslbad. The truck was spike stripped just before Sterling City in Broome. The suspect was then taken into custody and was identified as Ilja Avdejevs, 22, of Brandon Mississippi.  The truck was found to be stolen out of McCulloch County the day prior.

Back at Icon Cinema SAPD was trying to learn the exact details of what had happened prior to their arrival.

The victim told police that he and his preteen son had just gotten out of the corvette and was walking towards the entrance of the business. As they were approaching the entrance, the truck driven by Avdejevs drove towards the two in an "aggressive" manner.

The victim continued by telling officers that Avdejevs jumped out of the truck and was holding what appeared to be an "old-timer single shot shotgun." He demanded the keys by pointing the gun at the two and yelling "Give me your f****** keys! Give me your f****** keys!"

The two then began to run away from Avdejevs. They ran east through the parking lot but Avdejevs got back in his truck and began circling the lot. At one point Avdejevs attempted to run the victims over but they were able to hide between rows of parked cars. They hid between the cars and then snuck into the business just before police arrived.

After the chase the stolen truck was searched. Inside law enforcement found A stun gun, knife, and BB gun that was black with a brown butt stock.

After Avdejevs arrest, he was taken to the Sterling County Court to appear before a magistrate for the charge of Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle and was additionally charged with Obstruction or Retaliation after he threatened to kill officers, deputies, and the Judge.

Avdejevs is charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle for the stolen truck, aggravated robbery for the initial incident at Icon Cinema, and obstruction for threatening to kill officers, deputies, and the Judge.

He is currently in the Tom Green County Jail and is being held on a $75,000 bond.
