Gruesome Remains of Infant Found in Brady Lake

BRADY, TX – The body of an infant was discovered by an angler who was fishing on Brady Lake Friday.

According to the Chief of the Brady Police Department Steve Thomas, on May 7, at approximately 1:48 p.m., officers from the Brady Police Department were summoned to Brady Lake in reference to the remains of a deceased infant.

Upon arrival, officers met with a local fisherman, who brought them to the area and explained that he was bank fishing when he observed a partially submerged ammunition canister near the water’s edge. When he removed the can from the water, he noticed that it was a little heavy and decided to open it to see what was inside. Unfortunately, that was when the gruesome discovery was made, and law enforcement was immediately contacted.

While the area was being closed off to any pedestrian or watercraft, Texas Ranger Joel Timms, Justice of the Peace, Maggie Sawyer and representatives from Heritage Funeral Home were all summoned to the scene to perform their assessments and responsibilities.

An autopsy has been ordered and will be performed on May 10 at the Central Texas Medical Examiner’s Office in Lockhart. Any definitive ruling on the child’s identity, gender, and cause of death cannot yet be made, so there is no further information that can be reported at the time of this press release.
