Border Agents Treat Mexican Traveler with Multiple gunshot Wounds in El Paso

EL PASO, TX – U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers assigned to the Paso Del Norte border crossing rendered critical aid to the victim of multiple gunshot wounds.

On June 08, 2021 at approximately 3:30 p.m., a 29-year-old male arrived at the Paso del Norte border crossing in El Paso in a vehicle arriving from Mexico. It was quickly identified that the male traveler had several gunshot wounds throughout his body. Emergency Medical Services was immediately called, however, CBP Officer Beasley responded to the scene to apply a tourniquet to the traveler’s wounds awaiting EMS arrival. 

Supervisory CBP Officer Insko and CBP Officer Roman also responded to the scene, applying additional tourniquets to traveler’s wounds. The responding CBP Officers also ensured that the traveler’s limbs were elevated to maintain blood within the essential organs. The CBP Officers ensured that the wounds not requiring tourniquets were contained with pressure utilizing the subject’s clothing.

It is not uncommon for CBP Officer’s to provide critical care to travelers in distress. Throughout the last year CBP Officers have provided aid to travelers that are unresponsive for a variety of reasons, are in active labor, suffering from gunshot wounds, have overdosed, or have been severely wounded. CBP Officers receive invaluable training to assist them in these situations, many CBP Officers have first aid training, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation training, and many are also certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).
