Brady Man Charged with Murder of Brownwood Man

BROWNWOOD- A Brownwood man was shot and killed this morning and another man has been arrested.

According to the Brownwood Police Department, on Thursday July 14, 2022, law enforcement was dispatched to the 2700 block of Elizabeth Drive regarding a shots fired call.

Once on scene, officers were directed to the front yard on a residence and observed a Hispanic male who had gunshot wounds. The man, identified as 34-year-old Ivan Sergio Garcia-Rincon, was transported to Hendrick Medical Center-Brownwood in critical condition. Lifesaving measures were taken but were unsuccessful and Rincon was pronounced dead.

Brownwood police and the Criminal Investigations Division initiated an investigation, and it is believed that the suspect, 28-year-old Jose Alfonso Portillo arrived at the residence on Elizabeth Drive and was speaking with a female.

Rincon exited the residence and started an argument with Portillo. When Rincon ran toward the Portillo’s vehicle, Portillo fired several shots before he fled the scene.

Portillo returned and was located by police where he was ultimately detained, interviewed, transported to the Brownwood Law Enforcement Center, and charged with murder.
