TGCSO: Suspect's Reckless Actions Caused Death of San Angelo Woman

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office released a statement on Wednesday afternoon about the shooting that took place last night in Grape Creek.

As first reported, on Sep. 27, a women was shot by her boyfriend inside of their mobile home. Once TGCSO deputies arrived they were told by the boyfriend that he had shot her while he was high on meth. Court documents also revealed that deputies discovered a sawed off shot gun. The release from the TGCSO did not mention the details above. Instead it was only stated that "South, at a minimum, was reckless with his actions, which resulted in the death of the victim."

The following is a press release from the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office regarding Tuesday night's shooting in Grape Creek.

On Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at approximately 11:40 p.m., the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office responded to the 8200 block of Concho Drive West, Grape Creek Community, in reference to a gunshot victim.  Deputies located a female subject deceased on the scene.

During the subsequent criminal investigation, the victim was identified as Debra Netherton, 39 years of age. The suspect, Matthew South, 32 years of age, was detained on the scene.

Probable cause was developed to believe Matthew South, at a minimum, was reckless with his actions, which resulted in the death of the victim. 

Matthew South was arrested and charged with manslaughter.  The criminal investigation is still ongoing.
