San Angelo Creep Arrested for Violent Assault of a Pregnant Woman

SAN ANGELO— A San Angelo man was arrested Tuesday for assaulting a pregnant woman.

According to court documents, on February 7, 2023, a San Angelo police officer was dispatched to the 2900 block of Sunset Drive for a domestic assault call. On scene, the officer learned that Daniel Ponce, 29, had grabbed a pregnant woman’s phone from her while she was calling for assistance.

The woman, who is 10 weeks pregnant, was scratched by Ponce in the process of him grabbing the cell phone. After Ponce allegedly grabbed the phone, the woman attempted to run outside but Ponce had allegedly grabbed her by the stomach and tried to prevent her from leaving.

The woman got out of Ponce’s grip and ran outside where she located crying in the middle of the street. A search of Ponce revealed that he still had the woman’s phone, and it was determined that he did interfere with the woman’s request for emergency assistance.

Ponce was arrested for Assault of a Pregnant Woman and Interfering with a Request for Emergency Assistance. He was booked into the Tom Green County Detention Facility on February 7, 2023 and has a $25,000 bond and is not allowed to contact the victim.
