Fugitive Colorado City Shooting Suspect Arrested in California

COLORADO CITY— The fugitive suspect in the Colorado City shooting in May has been captured.

According to a Facebook post by the Colorado City Police Department, on June 6, 2023, the U.S. Marshals took Marcus Stanford into custody in San Jose, California around 8:00 p.m. Stanford was wanted on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge.

On May 16, 2023, Stanford was involved in a shooting against a woman at the Relax Inn in Colorado City, Texas. Stanford was on the run and police did believe at the time that he was still in Mitchell County.

A San Angelo LIVE! reader communicated to reporters that locals believed he was held up in a house in Colorado City and even accused the Colorado City Police of “not really looking for him”.

The Colorado City Police Department thanked the U.S. Marshals Service, Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, TDCJ, TPWD, and other agencies for their assistance in the Stanford investigation.
