Armed Robbery Suspect on the Run in the Big Country

 

ABILENE, TX  – An armed robbery suspect is on the run in the Big Country Thursday.

According to the Tye Police Department, in the early morning hours of July 20, 2023, Tye Police were alerted to an armed robbery at a convenience store. Officers were able to spot the vehicle, and a pursuit ensued.

The chase went through Tye and into Abilene with speeds over 120 mph. The chase ended after the suspects abandoned the car near Portland Dr. and South 1st St. A foot chase resulted in the arrest of one of the suspects and the seizure of the stolen money, drugs, and a stolen firearm.

The suspect in custody is a minor. The other suspect is still at-large. If you have any information, contact police immediately.

"Earlier this morning, a local convenience store in Tye was robbed at gunpoint. Fortunately, a Tye Officer was nearby and spotted the suspect vehicle fleeing the scene. A brief pursuit ensued at speeds exceeding 120 mph into Abilene. The suspects abandoned their vehicle near Portland Drive and South First in Abilene, and officers chased them on foot. One suspect was arrested, but the other suspect is still at large. Based on witness accounts and evidence found, we are confident that we will identify the remaining suspect. The stolen money, along with drugs and stolen firearms, has been recovered. The suspect in custody is a juvenile and has been transported to Juvenile Detention. We extend our thanks to the Taylor County Sheriff's Office and Abilene Police for their help in this matter."
