UPDATE: How the Standoff Ended Near Bowie Elementary

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – San Angelo Police are asking for citizens to avoid the area of Wildewood Dr. and Forest Trail near Bowie Elementary School for police activity.

According to our reporters on scene, on Aug. 30, 2023 at around 2:30 p.m., San Angelo Police were called to the 3600 block of Wildewood for the report of a man armed with a weapon making threats. Once on scene the entire area was blocked off.

The man apparently has barricaded himself inside a residence. 

SAPD, the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office, and Texas DPS were all on scene.

Bowie Elementary will be on hold until further notice.

UPDATE AUG. 30, 2023 4 P.M.

Law enforcement has left the area. Scanner reports indicated that the police decided to stand down to de-escalate the situation.

The San Angelo Police did not give a statement on the scene; instead, they referred our reporters to the Tom Green County Constables. San Angelo LIVE! reporters on the scene did confirm that the situation occurred after Tom Green County Constables attempted to serve papers on the individuals.

The area is safe for drivers and residents in the area. Police are aware of who the individual is.

It was not confirmed by law enforcement if the man faces any charges.

San Angelo LIVE! has reached out to the Constable's Office for a statement. There has been no reply as of 4 p.m.
