DPS: Armed Fugitive Shot by Officers in Coleman County on Christmas Day

 

COLEMAN, Texas — On Christmas Day, December 25, 2023, the Coleman County Sheriff’s Department, with assistance from Coleman Police Department officers, engaged in a pursuit stemming from a report of suspicious activity in southern Coleman County, where a firearm had been brandished. The suspect fled the initial scene, prompting a pursuit that traversed through the City of Coleman.

The pursuit culminated in the apprehension of the suspect on US Highway 84, several miles north of Coleman city limits. Responding officers discharged their weapons in response to a perceived threat, resulting in the suspect being struck. Emergency medical treatment was administered to the suspect, who was then airlifted from the scene for further medical attention.

The Texas Ranger Division of the Texas Department of Public Safety has initiated an ongoing investigation into the incident.
