Sexagenarian Takes Plea Deal for Abusing Children

SAN ANGELO— A San Angelo man has agreed to take a plea deal in Tom Green County for sexually abusing two children.

Luis Cantu, 68, was scheduled to be in District Court Monday and has agreed to take a plea deal for Indecency with by Sexual Contact a Child and a lesser charge of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child.

According to court documents, investigators received an intake from Child Protective Services that said Cantu had touched a 12-year-old child’s private area. During an interview with the victim, the child said that sexual abuse occurred on September 1, 2018.

After investigating, a second victim of Cantu’s was found, this time a 6-year-old child. This victim said that on or around August 1, 2009, and August 1, 2010, sexual abuse occurred between the child and Cantu. This victim also said that more abuse happened on or around March 1, 2011.

The sexual abuse occurred in San Angelo on the 2000 block of Marx Street. When speaking with Cantu, he said he had watched one of the victims with other children alone at this residence and he denied the accusations made by one of the victims.

In exchange for a guilty plea, Cantu has been sentenced to 10 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on one count of a lesser charge of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and one count of Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact. The judge has not yet signed off on the plea deal.
