Legally Parked Car Burns to the Ground on San Angelo Street

SAN ANGELO, TX - A car parked in the street and a nearby tree were consumed by flames in the Santa Rita neighborhood this morning, Jan. 19, at around 7 a.m.

The Volkswagen Jetta four door sedan was legally parked on the street in front of a residence. The San Angelo City Council this week discussed parking on private property and in city streets during their regular meeting.

A witness, who was taking her dogs out at the time, reported hearing what sounded like two gunshots before the fire broke out. The startled dogs immediately retreated into the house.

Upon returning outside, the witness described encountering thick plumes of charcoal smoke billowing over the Santa Rita neighborhood. The source of the smoke was traced to a vehicle fully engulfed in flames, accompanied by a tree that had caught fire.

Quickly responding to the emergency, firefighters and investigators arrived at the intersection of Park Street and Avenue J to tackle the blaze. Fortunately, it appeared that no individuals were inside the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Efforts were promptly made to extinguish the fire, bringing the situation under control. The exact cause of the fire and the gunshots is currently under investigation.
