Big Spring Man Arrested for Murdering His Grandmother

 

BIG SPRING, TX — A Big Spring man has been arrested and charged with the shooting death of his grandmother in December according to the Big Spring Police Department.  

On Dec. 27, 67-year-old Leah Hughes was found dead in her residence in the 1800 block of Brent Dr. On Feb. 6, 26-year-old Colten Hughes was charged with her murder. The Big Spring Police Department (BSPD) announced the arrest of Hughes in connection with the murder of his grandmother on December 27.

Initially considered a result of a fall causing injury, a subsequent autopsy revealed that Leah Hughes had died from a gunshot wound.

After an extensive investigation, with assistance from multiple agencies, BSPD Criminal Investigations Division arrested Colten Hughes during a traffic stop at the intersection of Parkview Dr. and Durango Dr. in Trophy Club, TX, approximately four hours away from Big Spring.
