Man With Numerous Warrants Arrested After Highway Chase in Sterling County

STERLING CITY, TX — A man with numerous warrants was taken into custody Thursday following a police pursuit in Sterling County.

Guillermo Rocha, who had warrants out of Hidalgo County in South Texas, led police on a chase after Sheriff Russell Irby attempted a traffic stop in Sterling City.

Irby observed Rocha’s pickup truck speeding, and the vehicle also had expired license plates, according to the Sterling County Sheriff’s Office.

Rocha refused to pull over and was seen drinking a large bottle of clear liquid that was later identified as vodka, the Sheriff’s Office stated.

Another officer joined the pursuit about 10 miles southeast of Sterling City, and Rocha then pulled over.

In addition to the charges he will face Thursday, Rocha was already wanted on two counts of aggravated robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and evading arrest.

He is currently being held in Tom Green County Jail with no bond listed.
