HARTSELLE, AL — An Alabama woman is facing first-degree arson charges after authorities say she set her ex-boyfriend’s home on fire because he refused to attend a Lil Wayne concert with her.
Amy Beth Taylor, 46, was arrested Sept. 25 after firefighters and deputies responded to a blaze at a residence on Peek Road in Hartselle, according to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office. Witnesses told investigators Taylor was “irate” after her ex-boyfriend declined to join her at the concert the previous night.
Court documents state Taylor went into a shed on the property and threatened to burn the home down before smoke was later discovered inside the residence. A woman inside the home managed to escape safely and call 911.
Deputies arrested Taylor the same day. She was booked into the Morgan County Jail, where her bail was set at $20,000. A judge ordered her not to contact the property owner or witnesses.
During a court appearance Monday, an investigator testified that Taylor admitted she had been drinking alcohol and was upset over the missed concert. She acknowledged telling her ex in the past that she would “burn his house down in a joking manner,” but denied starting the fire.
In addition to the arson charge, Taylor faces three counts of chemical endangerment of a child for allegedly exposing three of her six children to methamphetamine.
