Abilene Police Arrest 20-year-old Homicide Suspect

ABILENE, TX — A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred Wednesday night in north Abilene, according to the Abilene Police Department.

Police said John Manuel Rangel Jr. was taken into custody Thursday, Oct. 17, and booked into the Taylor County Jail on a charge of first-degree murder. The arrest follows an investigation into a homicide reported in the 1200 block of Lillius Street around 11:15 p.m. on Oct. 15.

Officers responding to a report of an injured person found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound inside a home. Patrol officers provided medical aid before the victim was taken to Hendrick Medical Center, where he later died. His name has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

Police initially asked the public for information about possible suspects before identifying Rangel as the accused shooter.
