Driver Crashes Into DPS Office, Taken Into Custody in Abilene

ABILENE, TX — A Houston man was taken into custody Thursday night after crashing his vehicle into the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Highway Patrol District Office in Abilene, according to a DPS media statement.

Around 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 13, troopers say Robert Samuel Wade, 47, drove a four-door passenger car on South Danville Drive, crossed Industrial Boulevard and struck the DPS office parking lot and building.

DPS reported that after the crash, Wade drove into the secured rear gated parking area and forced his way through a secured back door, entering the building. A trooper inside confronted him immediately and took him into custody.

The Abilene Police Department, Abilene Fire Department and EMS responded to assist with the investigation and to provide medical care. Wade was taken to Hendrick Hospital for treatment.

According to DPS, evidence indicated Wade was driving under the influence. The crash and his actions inside the building remain under investigation, and charges are pending once Wade is released from medical care.
