SAN ANGELO, TX — A man charged in connection with a high-speed chase that began in San Angelo and led to drug and firearm allegations is scheduled to face a jury next week, according to Tom Green County court records.
Antonio V. III Diaz, 28, is set for a jury trial at 9 a.m. Jan. 5, 2026, in the 119th District Court before Judge Gonzalo Rios. Court records show two felony cases filed by indictment are scheduled for trial that morning.
Diaz is charged with evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, all listed as felonies in court records.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office, the charges stem from a Jan. 25, 2025, attempted traffic stop on East 19th Street in San Angelo that escalated into a pursuit through the city and into Runnels County. Deputies reported the vehicle reached speeds exceeding 130 mph and that items were thrown from the vehicle during the chase.

Investigators later recovered methamphetamine that field-tested positive and weighed more than 116 grams, along with a rifle located near where evidence was allegedly discarded, according to the affidavit. Diaz was later identified as the driver. Court records state he had a prior felony conviction at the time of the alleged offenses.
Jail records show Diaz was released from the Tom Green County Jail on Dec. 29, 2025, after posting bond. His total bond across multiple cases was listed at $1,383,950, according to booking records.
The cases remain pending. Diaz is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
