San Angelo Woman Jailed After Striking Man, Threatening Him With Knives

SAN ANGELO, TX — A 55-year-old San Angelo woman remained jailed Monday on two felony aggravated assault charges after she allegedly threatened to kill a man with a knife, struck him and threw objects at him during a domestic dispute.

Sharon Mayberry was booked into the Tom Green County Detention Center at 9:32 a.m. Sunday on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault of a date, family or household member, causing serious bodily injury. Her bond was set at $75,000.

According to an arrest affidavit, the incident followed a verbal argument on Jan. 17. The man told investigators Mayberry asked him for money, left after he sent it, then returned hours later smelling of alcohol and began throwing fries at him while he slept on a couch.

He said she threw household items — including a small folding stool, ornaments and a lighter — then stood over him and struck him multiple times with open and closed fists. The man reported minor scratches on his cheek, nose, chest and chin.

The affidavit states Mayberry retrieved a small folding buck knife, struck him with it and said, “Bet you think I stabbed you.” The man barricaded himself in a bathroom, where Mayberry allegedly broke the door hinges. After she dropped the knife, he threw it away.

Mayberry then allegedly grabbed a large kitchen butcher knife and approached him threateningly. The man fled the home in the 1100 block of Cheyenne Avenue south of San Angelo. Mayberry followed while holding the knife, according to the report. He drove toward San Angelo, believing she might follow him to his workplace.

Investigators observed thrown items on the floor, a damaged bathroom door, the buck knife in a trash can and the butcher knife with a bent tip in the bedroom. Doorbell video reportedly showed Mayberry yelling, stabbing at the front porch with the large knife and saying, “I’d ... go to jail tonight for murder” and “Bet you think I stabbed you didn’t you.” Mayberry told investigators the incident was only a verbal argument.

Other residence damage, including a hole in a wall, was noted but could not be linked to this incident.
