LAKE BROWNWOOD, TX — A woman has been arrested after shooting a man in the chest in the town of Lake Brownwood.

Erin Martin was arrested by the Brown County Sheriff’s Office for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon - family violence.

According to a press release from Brown County Sheriff Vance Hill, sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 7100 block of Belfast Drive near Lake Brownwood regarding a domestic disturbance and a shooting victim at 6:17 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026.

When deputies arrived, they located and detained Erin Martin, then discovered that a man, identified as Michael Land, had a gunshot wound to his chest. Deputies were able to speak with Land before he was transported to Hendrick Medical Center. There, he claimed that Martin had become upset during an argument and she pulled a firearm.

Land said he attempted to back away from the situation but was shot in the chest by Martin.

When deputies spoke with Martin, she claimed that Land assaulted her and she shot him in self-defense.

The Criminal Investigation Division responded and processed the scene. Evidence was collected from the scene which contradicted Martin’s story. She was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail.

Land was treated for his injury and released from the hospital.

This investigation is ongoing.
