SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Police Department on Thursday revealed it is investigating the death of a man Tuesday as a murder.
Officers were dispatched at 6:41 p.m. Tuesday to the unit block of North Bishop Street after a report of a dead body.
They located a deceased man identified as Justin James, 36, who had a stab wound.
Investigators determined that the suspect, Drew Green, 39, entered the residence, stabbed the man while he was in bed, and then fled the scene.
The investigation further revealed that the suspect and victim knew each other, and this was not a random act of violence.
On Wednesday, police located the suspect at a residence in the 100 block of West 20th Street and observed him walking away from the location.
Officers then attempted to detain him for walking with the flow of traffic. Green fled from the officers but was quickly apprehended and taken into custody without incident, according to police.
Green was transported to Tom Green County Jail and charged with pedestrian walking with the flow of traffic, evading arrest/detention, and a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon out of Harris County.
During his arraignment Thursday, a charge of murder was added.
Green is also a registered sex offender out of Harris County.
Police Chief Travis Griffith credited the department with apprehending the suspect within 24 hours of the initial call.
He was unable to provide any additional details as to what led to the stabbing due to the ongoing investigation.
Drew Green was arrested Wednesday, Feb. 11, and has been charged with murder in the death of Justin James.
