SAN ANGELO, TX— San Angelo police responded to a shooting victim on Childress Street on Wednesday afternoon.
At about 4:15 p.m., San Angelo police rushed to the 1800 block of Childress Street after radio reports indicated that the victim had multiple gunshot wounds and was not responsive.
Reporters observed first responders performing CPR, and a neighbor said they heard multiple gunshots.
Police Chief Travis Griffith addressed the media at about 5:45 and said the victim was being treated at a local hospital. He didn't provide any other information about the victim.
Griffith said that multiple people have been detained in connection to the shooting.
"We don't know what their level of involvement is," Griffith said. "Right now, they're probably being treated more as witnesses than anything."
This is the third incident of shots being fired in San Angelo this week, including two different drive-by shootings. There was one reported over the weekend and another in the early-morning hours of Wednesday, though no one was shot in either of those cases.
Griffith said it's still too early in the investigation to know if Wednesday's shooting was related to the drive-by shootings.
He added that he believed there was no threat to the public, but the general area around the shooting will continue to be contained while police investigate.
Griffith said more information will be released when police are able to as the investigation continues.
