DETAILS: Potential Gang Activity Leads to Altercation & Drive-By

SAN ANGELO, TX — Matthew Gutierrez and Cameron Anderson have been arrested in connection to a drive-by shooting that took place on Webster Street.

Cameron Anderson, 18, and Matthew Gutierrez, 18, were arrested by the San Angelo Police Department for aggravated assault in a moving vehicle and discharging a firearm.

According to court documents, in the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 18, 2026, San Angelo police and the investigator were dispatched to the 3100 block of Webster Street regarding a drive-by shooting. The investigator learned from a sergeant on scene that they were looking for a dark-colored vehicle that was “blacked out” and was traveling westbound on Webster Street.

Police located the involved vehicle and attempted to conduct an investigatory stop, but the subject vehicle fled and a pursuit ensued. Less than 10 minutes after the call for service was made, both subjects, identified as Gutierrez and Anderson, were taken into custody.

During the pursuit, Gutierrez and Anderson were throwing firearms out of the vehicle. A Glock 17 9mm pistol, a multi-caliber Anderson Manufacture “ARP," and a Palmetto State Armory PA-15 multi-caliber “ARP” were recovered.

The investigator responded to the 3100 block of Webster Street and spoke with a victim who advised he was inside his residence and heard gunshots being fired toward his residence. The rounds entered the victim’s residence and struck several walls, a television, a cabinet, and his son’s vehicle.

Earlier in the day, the victim’s neighbor told him that their residence might get shot and to be aware.

The investigator then spoke with the neighbor who said that she learned about an altercation that took place at H-E-B, located at 3301 Sherwood Way. The neighbor said her son’s girlfriend told her that her residence was going to get shot at, and the neighbor had suspicions that Matthew Gutierrez and Cameron Anderson were involved.

Anderson, who was driving the suspected vehicle, and Gutierrez, who was in the passenger seat, were arrested, Mirandized, and taken to be interviewed.

Gutierrez said during the interview that an incident occurred on March 17 at the H-E-B mentioned. Both Gutierrez and Anderson, as well as two other individuals, were in a verbal altercation with some “southside” subjects. Later that afternoon, Gutierrez, Anderson and a juvenile met, and a plan was established to go shoot the residence on the 3100 block of Webster Street. Then, Gutierrez stated he was in possession of an AR pistol and attempted to shoot the residence. Police saw them and Anderson proceeded to flee while Gutierrez began throwing the firearms from the vehicle.

In the interview with Anderson, he told the investigator he “did what he did” and said he knew it was not right. Anderson then said he came up with the plan to perform the drive-by, and admitted he had something to do with it.

At a press conference held on Wednesday, March 18, San Angelo Police Chief Travis Griffith said that the drive-by was related to possible gang activity.

Both Gutierrez and Anderson were booked into the Tom Green County Jail on March 18. Anderson is being held on a $270,000 bond, while Gutierrez is being held on a $250,000 bond.
