Details Emerge in Fatal Stabbing on Childress Street

SAN ANGELO, TX — Court documents have revealed what happened in the fatal Childress Street stabbing Wednesday in San Angelo.

Jacob Flores, 17, of San Angelo, was arrested for murder after he admitted to stabbing a 16-year-old to death.

According to court documents, on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, an investigator was contacted by the San Angelo Police Department’s Communication Division and learned that officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of Childress Street for what was initially believed to be a shooting victim.

Upon officers' arrival to the residence, they located a juvenile victim suffering from traumatic injuries. The victim was transported to Shannon Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, and his mother positively identified him.

At the crime scene, Flores arrived and made the statement that the incident was self-defense. Officers placed Flores in handcuffs and in the back of a police unit. Flores advised an officer that he was picked up at the location by his juvenile brother and taken to a different location before returning to the scene.

An officer showed the investigator surveillance footage obtained from a nearby residence that showed where the homicide occurred. The footage showed the victim kneeling in the center of Childress Street with Flores standing over him. The victim was able to get to his feet and was screaming for help. Flores stepped away from the victim as the victim hid behind a vehicle.

Another individual then entered into the camera’s view.

The other individual walked towards the victim, and Flores ran in his direction. He responded to the victim’s cry for help but stated he could not do anything. The other individual then ran from Flores. Now, Flores was out of the camera view, but could he heard saying the other individual would be stabbed next.

About four minutes later, Flores came back into the camera’s view and appeared to be on the phone. At the end of the video, the victim was still hiding behind the vehicle.

The investigator went to Flores’ location to speak with him, and the first thing Flores said was that he defended himself to the investigator introducing himself. No questioning had taken place, and the investigator asked if Flores was OK. Then, the investigator advised Flores that he was not under arrest and asked if they could go to a different location to speak. Flores agreed and said he would tell him everything.

Flores was taken to the CID Annex, and the investigator again stated to Flores that he was not under arrest. If Flores wanted to go home, he could have.

Flores stated that he understood, then said that for the longest time that the victim and the other individual had been threatening to jump him. He was told by the victim that they were “going to pull up today." Flores said when he received this notification, he grabbed a knife and went outside.

Afterward, Flores stated that he saw the other individual and the victim walking down Childress Street, and he thought they had a weapon with them. He stated that one of them tried to squabble and, after Flores rushed, the other person jumped in. That was when Flores pulled the knife and the victim was stabbed. Flores said that he believed the other individual had a two-inch blade in his hand.

The investigator asked Flores if the other individual or the victim had started swinging on him, to which he replied they tried but when they started, he pulled the knife and they failed. Flores then said he waited to be hit so he could defend himself. The investigator asked if Flores had been hit and he pointed to his chest, but no injury was observed.

Flores said the knife was still in the vehicle that he left in. At the conclusion of the interview, Flores was transported back home.

The other individual was interviewed at a different location, and he stated he and the victim decided to go for a walk. When they got to the street the incident occurred on, they observed Flores standing on the side of the house, and Flores asked them if they wanted to “catch a fade." The other individual said that Flores walked up and put his hands in his pockets.

The other individual advised that the victim pulled out his phone and started recording. Then, Flores pulled something out of his pants and ran towards him and “tried to get him." The other individual stated that Flores at first missed, but was standing close to the victim, who Flores turned to, grabbed and stabbed him in the back over and over.

When Flores was done, he looked at the other individual and stated that he was next.

The investigator was notified by a detective that the victim was FaceTiming someone, and they were able to collect the video. This video was six seconds long and in it, Flores was seen standing in the middle of Childress Street and then ran towards the other individual with an object in his right hand. Flores attempted to strike the other individual but missed. The phone moved around and, in several frames, the investigator observed Flores in close proximity to the victim.

The victim was now in camera frame, and Flores was standing behind him with his left hand on the victim. Then, the victim fell over out of the camera’s view.

A detective talked with Flores’ younger brother who advised that he arrived after the incident and observed him in the street with a “black kid” he did not know. Flores’ brother said that they drove to a different location. Flores told his brother that there were a few people trying to jump him and before they could, he pulled a knife and stabbed him.

A search warrant was executed on the vehicle Flores was in, and the knife was located in the driver’s seat back pocket with a small red smear on the blade.

During the investigation it was learned that the victim had succumbed to his wounds at Shannon Medical Center.

Jacob Damian Flores was arrested, charged with murder, and is being held on $750,000 bond.
