Beware: Scammers Impersonating Tom Green County Sheriff's Office

SAN ANGELO, TX - Individuals are calling and falsely identifying themselves as members of the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office, even using the names of real employees.

These scammers may already have personal information such as your full name, date of birth, or other identifying details in an attempt to make the call seem legitimate, information from the sheriff's office stated.

The caller will often claim that you have:

  • Missed jury duty
  • Failed to appear for court
  • Owe fines or fees

They then demand immediate payment, often requesting money through Bitcoin, gift cards, or other non-traditional methods.

"THIS IS A SCAM," information stated. "TGSO will NEVER call you to demand payment over the phone, request payment via Bitcoin, gift cards, or wire transfer, or threaten immediate arrest for failure to pay over the phone."

If you receive one of these calls:

  • Do Not Sent Money
  • Hang up IMMEDIATELY!
  • Do NOT provide personal or financial information.
  • If you are unsure whether a call is legitimate, contact the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office directly using our official phone number.

Sheriff Hanna urges everyone to check on elderly family members, friends, and neighbors who are often targeted in these scams.
