San Angelo Police Identify Teen Suspect in Northside Recreation Center Murder

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — A 17-year-old has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man outside the Northside Recreation Center, police said. 

Isaiah Bailon was found deceased on the recreation center grounds from apparent gunshot wounds shortly after officers responded to a report of shots fired at about 5:24 p.m. Thursday, according to a San Angelo Police Department news release. 

Matthew Rodriguez, 17, was identified as the suspect during the investigation. Detectives determined that Bailon and Rodriguez had been involved in an illegal firearm transaction immediately before the shooting, police said. Rodriguez was charged with murder and is being held in the Tom Green County Jail on $1,000,000 bond.

The Criminal Investigations Division led the investigation with assistance from the department’s Gang Unit, Drone Unit, Narcotics Division, Special Operations Unit, K9 Unit and Crime Scene Investigations. 

The case remains under investigation.
