Amarillo Reeling After Another Mass Shooting on Saturday

AMARILLO, TX — Amarillo police are investigating after a shooting Saturday that killed two people and injured 10 others.

It comes less than six weeks after multiple shootings in the city killed six and wounded 10.

Amarillo, which has about 200,000 residents, has now had 10 homicides already in 2026 compared to 16 all of last year.

Saturday’s shooting occurred about 2 a.m. when police responded to a shooting at the Westminster Apartments.

According to police, a group of minors and young adults were asked to leave a party at another location, then arrived at the apartment complex where the party had moved to and opened fire.

A 17-year-old and 16-year-old were both killed.

Police said two suspects are believed to be involved, but their ages are unknown and no arrests have been made.

Saturday’s killings were another shock to the city after the chaotic events of March 22, when four separate shootings in Amarillo killed six people and injured 10.

Those events prompted Police Chief Thomas Hover to say his department would partner with other agencies to increase the presence of law enforcement in an attempt to curtail the violence.
