MCKINNEY, TX — The jury selection process has begun for the Karmelo Anthony murder trial where he is accused of fatally stabbing Austin Metcalf at a high school track meet.
Back in April 2025, Karmelo Anthony stabbed 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a track meet in Frisco, Texas. Jury selection is schedule for Monday, June 1, and Wednesday, June 3 and opening statements are set to begin Thursday, June 4, 2026.
On April 2, 2026, at Frisco Independent School District stadium, an altercation between Metcalf, his twin brother, and Anthony led to Austin being fatally stabbed in the chest. The altercation started when Anthony entered Metcalf’s team tent and was told by Austin and his brother to leave.
Witnesses said that Anthony reached into his bag and told Austin, “Touch me and see what happens,” before allegedly stabbing him in the chest with a knife.
When Anthony was taken into custody, he allegedly told officers he was protecting himself and he killed Metcalf in the process. Anthony’s initial bond was set at $1 million but that was reduced to $250,000 by Collin County Judge Angela Tucker. He was released from jail and given strict guidelines by the court.
On June 24, 2025, Anthony was formally indicted by a Collin County grand jury for first-degree murder.
The incident garnered widespread social media attention, and the Anthony family received about $500,000 from GiveSendGo, a fundraising website like GoFundMe.
