Big Spring Truck Stop Yields $300,000 in Stolen Copper Tubing

BIG SPRING, TX — Texas Department of Public Safety troopers recovered a trailer reported stolen in Georgia and more than $300,000 worth of stolen copper tubing inside it, arresting the driver on outstanding felony warrants from that state, authorities reported.

DPS personnel in the West Texas Region located the truck and trailer at a truck stop in Big Spring after receiving information about the theft, the agency said in a statement. Criminal Investigations Division special agents assisted in the probe and found approximately 41,083 pounds of stolen copper tubing valued at more than $300,000 inside the trailer.

The driver was taken into custody on the Georgia warrants. The owners of the trailer and copper tubing have been notified, and efforts are underway to return the property, DPS said.

The case demonstrates coordinated work across state lines to recover stolen goods and apprehend wanted individuals, the agency said.
