Death Investigation Launched After Body Found at Lake J.B. Thomas

SCURRY COUNTY, TX — Authorities are investigating the death of an individual whose body was discovered Saturday along the north shoreline of Lake J.B. Thomas near the Bull Creek channel.

The Scurry County Sheriff’s Office responded at about 9 a.m. June 13, after receiving a report of the deceased person, according to a news release issued by the office. Deputies, assisted by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Colorado River Municipal Water District, recovered the body.

Scurry County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Ricki Webb conducted an inquest at the scene and ordered an autopsy. Investigators believe the death may be connected to a previously reported missing person case, but the investigation remains ongoing.

There is no indication of any threat to the public, the release said.

The sheriff’s office extended its condolences to the family and loved ones affected by the loss. No further information will be released at this time out of respect for the family and the ongoing investigation.

The office thanked the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Colorado River Municipal Water District, Justice of the Peace Ricki Webb and Miller Family Funeral Home for their assistance in the response and recovery.
