Arrest for Warrants Ends in Fiery SWAT Standoff

SAN ANGELO, TX — A police standoff in north San Angelo ended Thursday evening after wanted suspect Michael Escobedo, 22, set a fire inside a home and was later found unconscious inside the residence.

According to San Angelo police, officers attempted to arrest Escobedo on two felony warrants — aggravated robbery and robbery. Before officers could take him into custody, Escobedo fled into a nearby home, leading to a standoff.

Police said they needed to obtain a search warrant before entering the residence. While officers waited for a judge to sign the warrant, Escobedo barricaded himself inside the house.
During the standoff, Escobedo set a fire inside the home. San Angelo firefighters were not allowed to enter the area due to safety concerns. Instead, several police officers used firefighting equipment to extinguish the small blaze.

Shortly after the fire was put out, officers found Escobedo inside the house unconscious. He was treated at the scene by paramedics and transported to Shannon Medical Center’s emergency room, where he remains.

The intersections of 42nd Street and Bowie Street, and 43rd Street and Bowie Street, were cordoned off during the incident. The incident started at around 5 p.m. and ended without any injuries other than Escobedo's unconsciousness, at 7:20 p.m. on June 25, 2026.
